Lewes Bonfire

If you know me then you probably know that Lewes Bonfire is probably one of the highlights of my year, if not  THE highlight. Sussex friends generally “get” why. In fact a large majority share the passion. However my friends and colleagues from outside the county (who haven’t been) look at me with a mix of bafflement and something that appears to say “ok, it can’t be that good.” If you havent been you cant possibly imagine what it is like. It isn’t for anyone. If you don’t like loud bangs and crowds stay away.

I’m not going to go into the whys and wherefores of bonfire night (plenty have done so before me (Lewes Bonfire Council and Cliffe both have good websites and background)). The Independent published a good article trying to explain it only today.

I took some pictures and recorded some videos last night which give a slight taster of the festivities and thought I’d bring them together here. Maybe it will help my mystified friends understand but I think they’ll still be baffled when I say I’m going to a bonfire in September … (Sussex bonfires and Hastings Bonfire Society’s Sussex bonfire page)
